We could not be prouder to work with SICI’s Founder and Faculty Chair, Julie Battilana, than we are today as she releases her first book: Power, For All: How It Really Works and Why It’s Everyone’s Business. Power is a word we all hear and use often, and yet this book makes it clear that it is quite frequently misunderstood and underestimated.
When I entered the workforce, despite an excellent education, I really, truly thought that being in the social impact space would insulate me from needing to “worry” about power dynamics. I know I am not alone in that experience. In fact, I bet we can all think of at least one person we know who, despite being talented and highly committed, missed the mark because of something related to the politics and power of the work.
Professionals across sectors, especially those hoping to change the world for the better, absolutely must be fluent in power dynamics and deeply understand how power works. We cannot cannot afford to see power as the enemy. We need to understand power, sort out our relationship to it, our own access to it, harness it, and use it thoughtfully, but also unrelentingly, for good. The greatest social challenges of our time demand nothing less.
Join us as SICI kicks off a year dedicated to unpacking, understanding, and channeling our power for good. We will host events, share new content, run workshops, courses, and more.
I look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks and months on the topic of power with you and our community. In the meantime, please join us on September 23rd and be in touch if there are connections you see between Power For All and your own important work.
Together with you,
