SICI Communications Intern – Job Description

Start date: June 2023

Expected weekly hours: 15 hours per week (flex schedule possible)

Pay rate: $20.50/hour. Candidates who are eligible for Federal Work Study are strongly encouraged to apply.

Who We Are

The Social Innovation and Change Initiative (SICI) at the Harvard Kennedy School has an immediate opening for a Communications Intern. SICI (pronounced “sigh-see”) accelerates and builds the world’s capacity for social changemaking.

What You’ll Do 

Working as part of an energetic and growing team, the Communications Intern will drive the content creation, curation, implementation, and dissemination of SICI’s mission and work. They will own responsibility for SICI’s social media presence, as well as a variety of communications activities and related administrative support that will contribute significantly to the development of SICI’s online and published presence. 

The Communications Intern will be responsible for proactively driving forward work including:

  • Drafting and disseminating weekly social media posts across Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook
  • Regularly updating SICI’s website in WordPress
  • Creating marketing plans for events, key announcements, etc.
  • Supporting the writing and creation of email newsletter and campaigns

You’ll Stand Out

Applicants must possess an exceptional attention to detail in both administrative and communication duties, as well as familiarity with key actors and concepts of social change, social justice, and social innovation.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate their:

  • Ability to distill and communicate complex ideas through written, verbal, and visual mediums
  • Motivation and resourcefulness, including the ability to meet deadlines, lead with an informed point of view, and creatively and independently problem-solve
  • Experience with or enthusiastic willingness to learn Canva, Salesforce CRM and Marketing Cloud, HootSuite, and WordPress.
