Visual Storytelling for Social Change

Date & Time

Thursday, Feb 7th, 2019

4:15 PM – 5:15 PM

Rubenstein 414AB, HKS, Cambridge, MA

The Social Innovation and Change Initiative is delighted to welcome photojournalist Brian Frank for an interactive roundtable conversation exploring the role of visual journalism in social innovation and social change movements. With over a decade of experience working on social documentary projects focusing on cultural identity, social inequality, violence, workers’ rights, and the environment, Brian will reflect on the experiences that led him to utilize photography as a tool to expose pressing, yet often unseen, social issues.

During this event, we will examine Brian’s new exhibition Out of Bounds, which looks at targeted policing and criminalization of minority youth and explores the incarceration of youth in work camps. All are welcome and students with interest or experience at the intersection of arts, innovation, and activism are encouraged to attend and share their perspective.

This roundtable is brought to you in partnership with the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy. Brian’s exhibition, Out of Bounds, will be shown at The Shorenstein Center through Feb 15, 2019. All exhibitions are free and open to the public during normal office hours.
