SUMMARY:Communicating with Impact for Social Innovators
DESCRIPTION:Sign Up!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPublic speaking is a critical skill for social changemakers to lead teams\, mobilize stakeholders\, and create positive social change. \n\n\n\nWe are delighted to welcome back Lily Lapenna\, founder of Verve Leaders and 2023-25 SICI Visiting Social Innovator\, for an interactive workshop on strengthening your executive presence and communication skills.  \n\n\n\nBuilding on the foundations of last month’s workshop\, Developing Your Executive Presence as a Social Innovator\, this session introduces new techniques focused on the Three Vs of Communication – visual\, vocal\, and verbal – and how to communicate in alignment with them. Participants will learn a technique for each dimension\, enabling them to communicate with greater confidence and impact – from investor pitches to critical team meetings.  \n\n\n\nThrough hands-on exercises and real-time feedback\, attendees will leave with practical tools to elevate their communication and lead more effectively. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome! No prior experience is needed to attend this workshop

SUMMARY:In Praise of the Indirect\, the Unpredictable\, the Immeasurable\, the Slow\, and the Subtle
DESCRIPTION:Sign Up!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat do you do when your plans utterly fail? If we can be honest\, all change work at some point will fail\, and break our hearts. How might we work with these less ideal\, less controllable aspects?  \n\n\n\nJoin SICI Visiting Social Innovator\, Nate Mullen\, for a conversation about how we can understand these powerful aspects of our work. Drawing on Nate’s experience as an artist and educator\, we’ll discuss lessons learned from failures in community organizing in Detroit and engage practices that allow us to leverage our inherent precarity. Participants will leave with the capacity to acknowledge that the start of every movement\, policy\, and organization is also a commitment to its end. \n\n\n\nThe workshop is named after a chapter title in Rebecca Solnit’s No Straight Road Takes You There. \n\n\n\nAll HUID-holders are welcome. Artists\, movement-builders\, and social changemakers are especially encouraged to join.

SUMMARY:Rethinking Capital: Creative Strategies for Funding and Impact
DESCRIPTION:Sign Up!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs the funding landscape for social ventures continues to evolve\, mobilizing capital today requires more than compelling storytelling\, it demands strategic fluency across a growing mix of financial instruments and incentives. \n\n\n\nThe Social Innovation and Change Initiative (SICI) is delighted to host Dr. Mohamed Aburawi (‘20 MC/MPA\, SICI Visiting Social Innovator)\, Founder and Managing Partner at Atarona Ventures\, and Co-founder of Speetar and Academia\, for an interactive session on how to broaden your definition of capital and position your venture for both funding and long-term impact. \n\n\n\nDrawing from over a decade of experience building and scaling ventures across health\, education\, and technology\, Mohamed will share a mini case study on his approach to attract sustainable\, blended finance for the ventures he works with\, combining philanthropic\, public\, and private capital to de-risk innovation. \n\n\n\nParticipants will explore: \n\n\n\n\nHow capital stacking can help ventures scale sustainably.\n\n\n\nThe role of catalytic and patient capital in enabling innovation and systems-level change.\n\n\n\nHow philanthropic venture building is reshaping early-stage funding by blending donor intent with investment discipline.\n\n\n\nPractical frameworks to identify and engage funders across philanthropic\, public\, and private sectors.\n\n\n\n\nThis session will challenge participants to move beyond traditional fundraising and think like capital architects\, understanding how to design\, combine\, and align resources to advance social impact at scale. This session is designed for students or innovators actively developing social ventures and seeking to strengthen their ability to mobilize capital.

SUMMARY:Resilience Workshop for Social Impact Leaders
DESCRIPTION:Sign up!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is at capacity\, we will re-open registration if more seats become available. \n\n\n\nStressors and setbacks are inevitable for social impact leaders working in uncertain times. The question is not if they will come\, but how prepared we are to respond. \n\n\n\nJoin Brittany Butler\, founding Executive Director of the Social Innovation and Change Initiative (SICI) and Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School\, for an interactive workshop on strengthening your capacity to operate under stress and adapt to changing conditions. Brittany draws upon her own leadership experiences as well as 10 years of coaching leaders while at Harvard\, guiding participants through personal reflection and a structured preparedness exercise that integrates concepts from psychology\, public health\, and organizational research. \n\n\n\nParticipants will take stock of their supports and identify practical steps to prepare for future stressors and change. \n\n\n\nThis session invites you to think differently about resilience: not as “bouncing back” to the way things were\, but as building the readiness and mindset to adapt continuously as our new normal evolves. All are welcome\, and students preparing to step into social impact leadership roles are especially encouraged to attend.

SUMMARY:Mobilizing Stakeholders to Support Your Impact Goals
DESCRIPTION:Sign up!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMobilizing stakeholders is about much more than fundraising. For social innovators and individuals leading change\, the ability to identify what you already have\, understand what others value\, and connect the two is a core leadership skill. Join Brittany Butler\, founding Executive Director of the Social Innovation and Change Initiative (SICI) and Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School\, for an interactive workshop on stakeholder mapping\, uncovering the assets at your disposal\, and translating them into meaningful support for your work. \n\n\n\nDrawing on her experience designing and leading accelerators for emerging innovators across Harvard\, Brittany will guide participants through practical exercises and frameworks that illuminate how to build stronger relationships\, unlock overlooked resources\, and align what you offer with what stakeholders care about. \n\n\n\nThis session is designed to stretch your thinking about resource mobilization as a creative\, values-driven process—not simply a financial one. All are welcome\, and students actively advancing a social innovation effort and seeking to deepen their capacity to mobilize support are especially encouraged to attend.
